Frequently Asked Questions
The deadline moves to the next business day. For example, the Texas franchise tax report is normally due May 15, but in 2027 that is a Saturday, so it is due Monday, May 17.
No. An extension gives you more time to file, not to pay. The IRS charges interest, and usually a late payment penalty, on any tax not paid by the original due date, so estimate and pay what you owe by then.
Yes. Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the threshold for Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC rises from $600 to $2,000 for payments made after December 31, 2025, with inflation adjustments after 2026. That means the $2,000 threshold applies to the 2026 forms due in early 2027.
Generally, yes, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more when you file after subtracting withholding and credits. This often applies to self-employed people, landlords and investors. Corporations generally make estimated payments if they expect to owe $500 or more.
The IRS often postpones deadlines for counties covered by a FEMA disaster declaration. Check the IRS disaster relief page or ask us whether a postponement applies to you.
Yes. Our tax and bookkeeping clients get reminders for the deadlines that apply to them. Schedule a consultation and we will map out your year.
